MEC for the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Sibulele Ngongo, tabled the Policy Speech outlining the Department’s strategic direction for the 2025/26 financial year. Key priorities span the sport, arts, culture, and heritage sectors, with targeted programmes and investments set to drive development across the Eastern Cape.
On the arts and culture front, the Department will continue to support the National Arts Festival, marking 23 years of its ongoing financial support, boosting the Eastern Cape Showcase. Crafters from various districts will be selected to display their work at the Rand Easter festival, as well as boosting the provincial film industry.
Heritage transformation remains a central focus, with this year marking the 150th anniversary of renowned national poet SEK Mqhayi — a milestone the Department aims to commemorate meaningfully.
The Department remains committed to fulfilling its mandate to elevate sport, arts, and culture throughout the province.
