The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture MEC, Fezeka Nkomonye will open a special library linked to the former struggle stalwart, Nelson Mandela. This as the country commemorates 8 years since his passing.

The commemoration is being held under the theme: Commemorating the life and times of Nelson Mandela through music in the year of Charlotte Maxeke.

The library, which will be opened in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Museum will preserve the legacy of the former statesman. It will offer specialized resource information on specific subjects with an objective to meet and deliver specialized services to a particular niche.

The library will cater for vast audience in the OR Tambo district including children, academics, politicians and students. At a time when the country is dealing with a global pandemic, South Africans are urged to hang on to the resilient spirit of utata uNelson Mandela and keep his legacy alive.

MEC Nkomonye says the department continues to encourage a reading nation through building libraries and encouraging reading clubs across the province.
