FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture MEC, Fezeka Nkomonye and the Multichoice group will today, the 20th of April 2021 handover a multipurpose sports field to Mqikela Senior Secondary School in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape. The Sports field which can be used for five different sporting codes which include netball, volleyball, tennis, soccer and hockey will be utilised by Mqikela Senior Secondary School and 9 other schools in the area.
This forms part of the department’s drive to reactivate school sport in the province. Sport MEC, Fezeka Nkomonye says initiatives like these help promote social cohesion and end inequalities that are rife in Sport.
“Infrastructure backlog in the province requires that we build strong partnerships with cooperates so as to make sure we bridge the gap between rural and urban communities. The facility is a state of the art and what brings us joy is that it has been built at the most rural part of our province to send a statement that says there is a deliberate attempt to develop and transform sport in rural areas and townships.”
