The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSARC) will lead more than 230 Eastern Cape (EC) athletes to represent the Province at the South African Sport National Championship Summer Games in Pretoria from 11 to 14 December 2017.
The National Schools’ Championship is a National multi-sports competition aimed at promoting school sport among learners within the school environment at National Level competition.

Furthermore, the Championships aims to increase the pool of talented athletes as a feeder to the national teams, thereby increasing the chances of international success and competition. These Summer Games also increase the opportunity for learners from all schools to participate in organized sporting events which will broaden the base for talent selection.

Selection of these athletes is conducted from schools through inter school competitions, circuit competition eliminations, districts and up to Provincial competition. The Provincial teams then participate in the South African Schools Sport National Championship.
The sporting codes that will be played are, namely; Kgati, Morabaraba, Gymnastics, Cricket, Basketball, Rugby 7s, Table tennis, Goal ball and Softball.
Team EC is targeting to better last year’s 6th position finish in these championships and thus better their medal tally of 20. The Province wishes them well as they are departing tomorrow, 09 December 2017 for Pretoria.
