The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) MEC Fezeka Bayeni has extended the due date of invitation for nomination for the 2019/20 Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Awardsfrom 17 January 2020 to 27 January 2020.
The Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Awards are held annually in recognition and
celebration of individuals,groups, organisations or institutions who have played a role
of enhancing and promoting professional excellence
in the arts and cultural sector of the Province.
Furthermore, these prestigious awards honour artists whose extraordinary careers have
had a profound and lasting impact on arts and culture.
The nominated artists will be awarded at the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Awards
that will be held at the East London International Convection Centre (ELICC), East London on 21 February 2020.
Nominations were open to any person who has achieved in any of the 23 different categories provincially,
nationally or internationally. A team of 7 adjudicators' who are professionals in the Music,
Indigenous Knowledge, Language, Visual and Performing Arts genres selected the awardees for each category.
Winners will be announced and awarded at the event in recognition and acknowledgement for their excellence,
this includes an individual whose lifetime has contributed significantly to enrichment of cultural life in the Eastern Cape.
Cultural diversity remains the Eastern Cape's strength in attracting tourists and it should be protected by all means.
Thus, the awarding of home-grown artistic excellence reinforces the Department's commitment to protect the wealth
of talent which may so easily be lost to other provinces.
