The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) MEC Bulelwa Tunyiswa will welcome her counterpart from German, Lower Saxony Minister of Internal Affairs and Sport honourable Mr B. Pistorius, who is visiting Eastern Cape for a period 5 days and expected to arrive at the East London Airport on 31 October 2018 at 16h50. The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the twinning agreement the Eastern Cape (EC) Province has with the German Federal State of Lower Saxony, specifically sport and also look at possible cooperation within the area of Police Services.
Currently, more than 14,000 learners directly benefit from the work of 36 volunteers from Lower Saxony in various places in EC. The volunteers are based in East London, Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay, Port Alfred, Berlin, Bulungula and Coffee Bay. They are directly involved in the schools operations, teaching the learners in various sports like soccer, swimming, triathlon and canoeing, just to name some of the various activities.
A welcome dinner will be hosted by MEC Tunyiswa and a number of projects will be visited including the Berlin Primary school that has 920 learners with 2 German Volunteers who assist with sports lessons in the morning and afternoon for various sporting codes.
The provincial Government of the Eastern Cape and the Government of the German Federal State of Lower Saxony on 20 October 2015 signed a Joint Declaration of Intent in Bhisho to foster socio-economic development, foreign investment, and cooperation in areas of technology, sport, HIV/AIDS and tourism in their respective Provinces.
