The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSARC) in partnership with the Eastern Cape Sport Confederation (ECSC), Eastern Province (EP) and Border ruby unions will host the launch of the Eastern Cape Super 12 Rugby Tournament in
Wolfson Stadium on 19 January 2018.
The Rugby Tournament is organised annually and it is a flagship programme on the rugby Calendar, as it brings together the cream of the crop rugby players in the Province. It is also an early window for our club players to be spotted by the king’s franchise and/or the respective provincial teams.
This year’s tournament will be bigger and better than last year, all clubs will play against all teams in their groups, unlike last year where the tournament was shortened.
Last year winners were Gardens RFC, beating EL Police 6-3 in the final on 31 March 2017 at Rhodes University Great Fields in Grahamstown and they have won the competition four times in 11 tournaments. They will line up on the 20th of January against one of the tournament newcomers, Star of Hope from Kwa Nobuhle, Uitenhage to begin the defence of their title and try to extend their winning reign. Other two entrants’ in the tournament are Kruisfontein from Humansdorp and Ntlaza Lions from Nltaza near Port St Johns.
All areas of the province are represented in the tournament and it will start from the 20th of January 2018 to the 10th of March 2018.
