The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa in the spirit of Thuma Mina, always reminds all of us as Public Representatives, of a call made by his Predecessors and in particular Tata Nelson Mandela that we are deployed for only but one purpose, to serve the people of our country to the best of our ability. He also reminds us that failing to keep our promises is detrimental to the decorum of the party that has deployed us, the African National Congress and our government. This is why I am here today to fulfill a commitment that I made to these artists that are with us here today. It is always my fervent prayer that, as a public representative, I dare not fail our people especially the poor and vulnerable groups like the youth. Ukuba ngaba ke asizifezekisi izithembiso zethu sizinkokheli kubantu bethu ingakumbi kubantwana bethu, sakuba sakha isizwe samaxoki kwaye sifundisa abantwana bethu ukuba bakhule bengamaxoki. Yile nto ke kufuneka sisoloko sizama kangangoko sinako ukuba ngumzekelo kubantwana bethu nakwi Sizwe sethu. If we consistently teach our children what is good and walk the talk, few of them will go astray. They will always be on the correct path.

I wish to take this opportunity and thank officials of the Department in particular officials from BCM/Amathole offices for their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to their work. Immediately I made pronouncement during my visit here at Duncan and said, that Thuma Mina. I committed that we will come back and deliver this equipment to these young people, our officials  made sure that this commitment is fulfilled. In actual fact, Director of Proceedings, these two districts should be utilized by the Department as a best practice given their level of maturity in the way in which they tackle service delivery issues and for being best organized for events of the Department from a district,  provincial to a national level. Thank you very much to you Ms Tsokoma, Mr Ngxata and your respective teams.

Kunzima kubantu bethu. Ingakumbi kubantwana bethu. Indlala nentluphelo bayazi ncakasana. This is why we call upon private sector and business to work with us. Government only,  can never address huge challenges faced by our people created over the past decades within  a short time. Government however appreciates the fact that, the little intervention we make to our people, they will always acknowledge it. We must teach them especially the young ones not to forget their peers and their communities when they succeed in life. Avoid a tendency of moving away their communities that supported them when things are good.

One of the illustrious and finest sons of our country, from a small town, Bergville in Kwa Zulu Natal, Mr Jabulani Hadebe with a stage name "Sjava Ka Jama" , had this to say about ubunzima,

"Ngithi mangikhumbula
Lapho ngiphuma khona
Bekungekho lula
But I made it anyway
Ngithi mangikhumbula mama
Lapho ngiphuma khona
Bekungekho lula
But I made it anyway
Ngoba la phandle kunzima we mfethu
Nam ngasizwa yinkabi zam
Lokho ngiphusha ngiphanda nazo
I thank you God for le yinkabi nginazo
They saved me
Bafaka iFull tank
uMama wathi ngibonise abangani bonke
And I will show you your future
uMama wathi watch the company you keep

Bekungekho lula
Ngibulawa yindla
But I made it anyway."

The song tells an emotional story. This young man moved from rags to riches. He was literally washing  taxi cars/cabs at the taxi rank for him, his siblings and parents to have something to eat. Some of the drivers would pay him very little, taking an advantage of knowing him from the village or township. Little did they know that they deprive his family of a decent meal.

At the end of that song, we see, on same vedoe, an uncle of this great young artist thanking  him for keeping his vow that when things work out for him in life. He would take his grandmother out of the shack  and build her a house and indeed he kept that vow. And not only that, his uncle also  thanks him for remaining humble to his people and especially his community. That he has stuck to his roots roots and has done it in his own way. He came to fame only in 2015 and today he is one of the big names apha eMzantsi. Imfihlo yimbeko nentlonipho, ukungazilibali apho uphuma khona ngamaxesha onke. Intobeko kwindawo zonke ohamba kuzo. Ukhusele isidima sakowenu. Ungazilibali iimfundiso zabazali bakho. ujonge abangani ohamba nabo. Ungahambi nje nongantweni. Ufunde izinto ezingakhiyo ezifana nombulala ntsha, iziyobisi.

But you will make it anyway. Tell yourselves that. Ayikho into eza lula. Indlela eya empumelelweni imxinwa ifuna amagorha. Ofunga nangajiki.

People might look down at Gompo/Duncan village but believe you me, that area has produced giants whose commitment and sacrifices in a fight struggle against Apartheid and Colonialism can never go unnoticed. These are the champions of the old age values of Ubuntu. The generation  of Nelson Mandela and Mama Nontsikelelo Albertina. oo Boy Mnyaka, Mandla Gxanyana, the former Secretary General of SAWWU and FAWU respectively, Bone Sikhulu, the current Secretary General of SACCAWU, Tiyo Tonisi, Joe Jordan, Tura Ngcaba, Dima Molane, Koko Qebeyi, David Qotile, Zola Dunywa, Luvuyo Jacobs, Rev Mthuzula. The list is endless. The Area has also produced  artists of great virtuosity such as Retsi Pule, Buala Hashe and Lulama Gawulana. All these heroes and heroines are still alive. The leadership of Buffalo City Metro can then find a strategy of how these outstanding leaders could find mentoring sessions with the youth of the area.

Your homework from here as young and upcoming artists is to use the skills you have to educate the community to fight against violence on women and children. Women are the pillar of our families and so, if you destroy them, you destroying our families. This is why "Sjava" doesn't end his song without mentioning his mom. Children are the future of our country. Let's speak out against gender violence especially sexual harassment and sexual assault. Culprits are people we trust and who are very close to us. These take place in places that are supposed to protect us. Places like churches. Our grandmothers, mothers, and children are victimized everyday. We must all stand up and fight this to the end.

Go back to the township and  inform everyone to go and resister, verify their addresses on 26 and 27 of January 2019 so that we can be able to vote responsible in 2019 General Elections which will take place in few months time.
Freedom did not come easily and therefore, we cannot just give it away so easily.

Hambani ke bantwana bam. Niyosebenza ukuze kuhlume nabanye. Ekugqibeleni ke, kuyohluma iSizwe.

Remember the words of Jabulani Radebe, akuzubalula

Thank you very much
