The Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council (ECPACC) a Public Entity of the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) has collaborated with Moving Into Dance Mophatong (MIDM) through their ‘Connections’ Project to train 10 performing dancers from the Eastern Cape.
These creative dancers will create a dance production to be staged nationally in Johannesburg on 12 November 2018 representing the province. MIDM uses creative medium of dance and performing arts to train, educate, develop and empower youth and adults especially those that are economically under privileged and unemployed.
The training workshop has been running for a period of 2 weeks from 22 October 2018 and will be completed on the 3rd week ending 09 November 2018. The dancers are expected to create a 20- minute production that will be part of their joint production with two other provinces in Johannesburg.
The dancers were selected from all the 8 districts of the province and all of them are leaders or members of dance groups. Some of the dancers include the well-known choreographer Simphiwe Mba and Simvuyele Hala, a member of Unstoppable Youth which won the 2018 Tru-FM Talent Search. There is an opportunity that one or two dancers that show real talent may be selected to join MIDM’s full time accredited dance diploma course in 2019.
At ECPACC, we use various artforms including dance as tools for social cohesion, promotion of cultural tourism and nation building. It is for this reason that we would like to invite you to a Showcase of this production before it leaves our shores. We have packaged two more theatrical productions to give you an exhilarating experience.
Members of the media are invited to attend and the dance showcase will be held as follows:
