The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSARC) will honour artists at the Eastern Cape Provincial Cultural awards on 24 February 2018 in East London, Guild Theatre. The Eastern Cape Provincial Cultural awards are held annually in recognition and celebration of individuals, groups, organisations or institutions who have played a role of enhancing and promoting professional excellence in the arts and cultural sector of the Province.

Furthermore these prestigious awards honour artists whose extraordinary careers have had a profound and lasting impact on arts and culture.

The acknowledgement of excellence will be awarded in 23 different categories including the individual whose lifetime has contributed significantly to enrichment of cultural life in the Eastern Cape.

Cultural diversity remains the Eastern Cape’s strength in attracting tourists and it should be protected by all means. Thus the awarding of home-grown artistic excellence reinforces the Department’s commitment to protect the wealth of talent which may so easily be lost to other provinces.

The DSRAC is hosting these awards in partnership with the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council (ECPACC), Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre (ECAVC) and the East London Guild Theatre.

Entrance is free and community members are invited to attend. Doors will be opened from 18:00 on Saturday, 24th February 2018, at the Guild Theatre.
