The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC), in partnership with the Eastern Cape Sports Confederation, will tomorrow, 26 September 2018 have a breakfast meeting with the South African Rugby team, Springboks, to congratulate them on their past performances, especially the recent match against the All Blacks and to further wish them well for their game against the Wallabies in Port Elizabeth.

The breakfast meeting follows a recent church service the DSRAC MEC Bulelwa Tunyiswa had with the Springboks on Sunday, 23 September 2018 at the Nazareth Old Apostolic Church in Zwide, where the captain of the team Siyamthanda ‘Siya’ Kolisi comes from, to bless him and the team for their achievements.
MEC Tunyiswa spoke about the transformation and direction of the rugby team, “The province of the Eastern Cape has continued to be a breeding ground of top rugby athletes in South Africa, and it is by far the province that produces the highest number of Black players. Not only does it produce Black players it also produces Black administrators, coaches and technical officials”.

“In the recent past Siya Kolisi was named as the current Springbok Captain. It is unprecedented in the history of South African rugby that an African has been afforded such a title. It is also important to note that apart from the Captain there is an additional 7 players and 4 technical team members that are from the Eastern Cape,” said Tunyiswa.
Furthermore the team led by Siya Kolisi will conduct coaching clinics with aspiring young talented youth with the aim of reviving community sport activities.
At noon tomorrow, there will also be a handing over of 2 vehicles to the Eastern Cape Academy of Sport (ECAS). These vehicles are mobile units that assist in providing basic education and practical guidelines in terms of generic sport science principles applicable to coaching across all sporting codes. They also serve as storage units and transportation of sport equipment. A short ceremony will be done to hand over the two vehicles to the Eastern Cape Academy Commission.
