The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) MEC Fezeka Bayeni will tomorrow, 8 October 2019 launch the O.R. Tambo Month, October and outline the activities that will take place to celebrate this icon at a media briefing session in East London.
Oliver Reginald Kaizana Tambo, affectionately known as O.R. was born in Nkantolo, Bizana on the 27th October 1917. O.R. was an avid sports person having participated in football, tennis and cricket whilst at St Peters Secondary School in Johannesburg. He was also very active in choral music and was also a conductor of choirs.
Hon MEC will at the OR Tambo Month launch highlight the activities her Department with host as we commemorate the life and times of OR. At the launch, Hon MEC will be joined by Khaya Majeke Sport Promotions that will also be partnering with the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture' (DSRAC), in hosting the Body Building Championship in Bizana.
Other Month-long Departmental Programmes includes;
- Mzila Ka Tambo 42 km Marathon, in Bizana
- International Body Building Championship
- O.R Tambo Provincial Choral Music
OR Tambo would have been 102 year had he lived
