The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) MEC Bulelwa Tunyiswa and delegation from the Office of the Premier, Department of Education and Provincial Treasury are visiting schools this week as part of Back to School campaign in the Province that started Monday, 14 till 18 January 2019.
The Back to School Campaign is a National programme that seeks to support the return of learners and teachers to school after major school vacations. The Eastern Cape Province has always been part of the programme where during the opening of schools, leadership at various spheres of government would visit schools to monitor the opening and beginning of the schooling.
The objectives of the campaign is to visit identified schools that have performed well during 2018 matric examination to encourage them and visit those that did not perform well to motivate leaners and staff. It is also an opportunity to monitor the implementation of education related policies that would contribute towards transformation and well-functioning of schools.
MEC Tunyiswa and delegation visited three schools so far where she had an opportunity to engage with the leadership of the school, the School Governing Body (SGBs) and addressing learners. Mzokhanyo High School is one of those school visited, that have improved their grade 12 results to 84% for class 2018 from 34% of 2017.
“We want to have confidence in you and make sure that you succeed as learners, as some in the past did not have this opportunity. We also want your dreams to be realised through an enabling learning environment created by our government. You are the future leaders of tomorrow and teachers are here to teach and guide you to reach your potential,” said Tunyiswa.
MEC Tunyiswa is one of the members of Executive Council leaders that have been deployed across the province, covering all the Metros and District Municipalities.
